The Milan Triennale inaugurates the first museum of Italian design on December 6, Thursday. Surprisingly for a city that is considered the capital of design, a permanent design exhibition space has come after a long wait. The museum will open its door with an exhibition- The Obsession of Italian Design,- of 100 iconic objects designed by famous Italian designers Ettore Sottsass, Enzo Mari, Vico Magistretti, Gaetano Pesce among others, that is set against films by British artist and filmmaker Peter Greenaway and six Italian filmmakers. The concept has been designed by Greenaway and Italian architect Italo Rota and curated by Silvana Annicchiarico.

Italian architect Michele de Lucchi, who has also designed for Poltrona Frau, is responsible for the structure. The enormous bridge itself is sculptural and worth exhibitng in the museum.

Another must visit venue on your trip to next year’s Salone del Mobile that runs from April 16-21, 2008. Mark your diaries.
