Blue City project by Foster +Partners in Oman

Gulf countries are outdoing each other with a line-up of star-architects and high-profile projects. The tiny gulf Sultanate of Oman, known for The Chedi Muscat, its pristine beaches and where the mad construction boom has not yet begun has enrolled the services of Foster + Partners for its Al Madina Al Zarqa (Blue City). The development will be home to some 200,000 people on a coastal stretch west of Oman.

The masterplan is made up of a cluster of gated communities inspired by traditional Omani architecture with wind towers and private courtyards. The development will also feature schools, university, stadia, golf courses, concert hall, marina and souks. There will be hotels and restaurants as well.

Gordon Campbell Gray, the well-known founder of One Aldwych Hotel in London is also opening a hotel in Blue City next year.
